ABOUT
Through years of photographing architecture, there is something we have always felt.
That within a single work of architecture lies a beauty never yet fully conveyed.
Light and shadow. Inside and out. And all that lies between.
Time, climate, nature, sound, temperature, material — and the thought and craft of those who make it.
As these many elements gather and overlap, a scene arises in the space that belongs to that moment alone.
What no drawing can depict. What words alone cannot carry. What can only be felt by being there.
We wish to draw out, with care, the presence that dwells deep within such architecture — through photography and film.
TSUGITE is a visual studio founded on a single wish: to carry the thought and beauty of Japan's architects, designers, craftspeople and spatial brands — through photography and film, to audiences at home and abroad.
In architecture there is a word — tsugite, the joint: the wisdom of Japanese building that binds separate members into a single structure.
To become that joint — the tsugite that carries every beauty of Japanese architecture out into the world.
── this is the stance we fold into the word.
Rather than photographing only what is visible, we look to the depth and presence a building holds, and give it form through photography, film, and at times sound.
To photograph, too, we believe, is to carry on — to join.
As a hand that continues Japanese architecture. And a hand that opens it toward the next place.
TSUGITE creates the points of contact through which the value held in architecture reaches beyond borders and beyond language.
